MICHIGAN —
Yoga in Your Park is an all-day global yoga session focused on finding a cure for Huntington's disease.

Yoga has shown to be very therapeutic for those with Huntington's disease, even muscular sclerosis and Alzheimer's.

Huntington's disease is a fatal genetic disorder that affects a person's nerve cells in the brain and can worsen over a 10 to 25-year period. In fact, the symptoms of HD are described as having ALS, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's simultaneously. Every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of inheriting it.

That's why the Huntington's Disease Society of America Michigan Chapter invites everyone to join its yoga fundraiser this Saturday, June 27. It's called Yoga in Your Park, meaning you pick your favorite space where you live and join people from all over the world for a yoga session via Zoom.

"We have 10 support groups across the state, and we're getting ready to launch our 11th in the Upper Peninsula, so the funds that we raise go straight to the people in Michigan," explained chapter president Don Peasley.

"This disease has no cure. There are some really promising trials that are underway, phase 3 human trials on therapeutics that are really promising. In the meantime, what our chapter does is just provide support for education for the families."
